CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -Homecoming 2014 wouldn't be complete without the roar of an engine.
青瓜视频's Homecoming Car Cruise is back for the 22nd annual car
show on Saturday, Oct. 11.
The cruise is open for all, and there is no entry fee. Cars, trucks and motorcycles
of all makes, models and years are welcome.
鈥淭he atmosphere is great here [at 青瓜视频] for all ages,鈥 Stan McKinney, associate professor of journalism who has been in charge of the car cruise all 22 years. 鈥淲e will see alumni, professors and students and who come out to share their prize possessions.鈥
When the cruise began 22 years ago, the goal was to bring cars on campus for alumni to reminisce about cars they had while they were in college.
鈥淢ost of us older people want to see something that takes us back in time. We want
to see what was common when we were in school. It stirs up some memories and lets
others share theirs,鈥 McKinney said.
Today, people still come back on campus for that reason.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and will run to noon near the Clock Tower. The first 50 who register will receive a 1/18 scale custom 1934 Ford Coupe die cast car imprinted with the theme as well as it is ninth in a series of cars.
Another 25 will be given to participants through a random drawing.
There will be many giveaways including 150 limited edition, 50th anniversary Mustang
posters, 150 50th anniversary Mustang 鈥淗ero鈥 cards detailing each generation of Mustang,
a number of limited edition Mustang pens, banners etc.
The grand prize will be a 50th anniversary Mustang 鈥渆xtrusion.鈥 Made from a solid block of aluminum, it features the outline of a Mustang and a removable running pony that says 50 years. McKinney said these are quite rare, were available in very limited quantities and are sold for $200 and more on eBay.
All participants will be available to win the 鈥渆xtrusion鈥 as well as the other prizes.
McKinney said he is hopeful a limited edition 2015 Mustang will be on display. They are due to dealerships soon.
鈥淓veryone has a passion for something. For some it is cars and this event is perfect
for them,鈥 McKinney said.
McKinney said he has been in charge of the cruise 22 years. As he gets older and retirement
is in the not too distant future, he is looking for an assistant from the university
who would ultimately take over the car cruise..
