CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville's Citizens Bank Presents J. Mark McVey, who made his Broadway debut as Jean Valjean in 鈥淟es Mis茅rables,鈥 in a free pops concert Tuesday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. EDT in 青瓜视频's Ransdell Chapel at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville.
McVey, who surpassed more than 3,200 performances in 鈥淟es Mis茅rables,鈥 will be performing with 青瓜视频's Orchestra in the concert sponsored by the Campbellsville University Friends of Music.
鈥淚 love to play with young orchestras!鈥 McVey said. 鈥淎nd it's not just the youthful enthusiasm. The college years are where most of the exploring who we are as people and so it goes with musicians.鈥
McVey said he applauds 青瓜视频 for bringing a wide variety of performers in the concert. 鈥淭he inclusion of all styles affords the students the opportunity to experience a broad base which can only serve to strengthen their education as well as the future of the profession in general.鈥
McVey, and his pianist Joseph Baker, will be playing music by Irving Berlin, Andrew Lloyd Weber, Richard Rodgers and Marvin Hamlisch.
Dr. Tony Cunha, dean of the School of Music, said the Friends group, as well as Campbellsville University's School of Music, is 鈥渉onored and thrilled to be performing with Mr. McVey.
鈥淢r. McVey is an extremely talented musician, and we are excited to bring this pops concert to 青瓜视频 and the surrounding community.鈥
McVey began his Broadway debut as Jean Valjean after having won the Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Actor while in Washington, D.C. He was the first American to perform Valjean in London's West End, and he reprised the role with the Los Angeles Philharmonic to sold out crowds at the Hollywood Bowl and once again in the 25th Anniversary Tour of 鈥淟es Mis茅rables where he won the Ovation Award and the Broadway.com Award.
McVey made his Carnegie Hall Debut with Marvin Hamlisch and continues to perform with numerous symphonies around the country and the world.
His television credits include 鈥淎merica's Got Talent鈥 and 鈥淒ays Of Our Lives.鈥 He made his PBS debut with the Boston Pops and followed that performance with the PBS Christmas Special for the U.S. Military Troupes where he was featured with Hamlisch and The National Symphony Orchestra. He also appeared in the PBS Special 鈥淎 Tale of Two Cities in Concert.鈥

McVey earned a Double Platinum record for his participation on the Trans-Siberian Orchestra recording of 鈥淭he Lost Christmas Eve.鈥 He also has three solo CDs: 鈥淏roadway and Beyond鈥 鈥淚f You Really Knew Me鈥 and 鈥淥ne Among Few,鈥 as well as a Family Christmas CD.
McVey continues to record having a new project due out soon.
McVey considers his greatest achievements are his daughters, Grace and Kylie, who are a 鈥渁 collaborative effort with God and his incredible wife, actress and singer, Mrs. Christy Tarr-McVey.鈥
