CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Kenzie Rice of Lawrenceburg will show her senior art exhibit at 青瓜视频's Art Gallery Dec. 1-11.
A reception in her honor will be Monday, Dec. 1 from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the gallery. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
Rice will display paintings, ceramics, prints, drawings and mixed media.
Guest artist will be Sarah Sprague, a junior from Vermont.
Rice will graduate in May 2009 with a bachelor of science degree in art with a P-12 certification. She has exhibited art work at CU's Juried Student Art Shows in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Her painting 鈥淗ebrews 11:1鈥� won third place in the 2008 show.
She has also exhibited work at the Sunshine Center Art Gallery.
Rice grew up and spent most of her life in Frankfort. She graduated from Western Hills High School in 2005 and is the daughter of William and Beverly Rice of Lawrenceburg.
She has traveled on mission trips to Texas, New Mexico and Honduras.
鈥淭he basis of most of my work comes from my spiritual beliefs as well as my emotions and expressions,鈥� she said. 鈥淚 have found that art is not only a way for me to express what I am thinking or how I feel, but a way for me to worship as well.鈥�
Many of her pieces are of hands, birds, hearts and other symbols that 鈥渟trongly represent the image or emotion that I am usually trying to convey.鈥�
Rice began painting during revivals, during CU's 鈥淥asis鈥� worship service and youth events such as 24-God.
鈥淢any of my paintings are very simple and abstract because of how quickly I was asked to paint them,鈥� she said. 鈥淚 know that the paintings, Energy and So Small, bot of which were painted during 24-God, were painted in 15-20 minutes or less.鈥�
鈥淚 feel that all art has a purpose and for me it serves as a way to express creativity, spirituality and emotions,鈥� she said.
