CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.鈥斍喙鲜悠� will be celebrating the Christmas season by presenting the annual 鈥淐hristmas Tapestry鈥� concert on Friday, Dec. 5, at the Ransdell Chapel. The concert will begin promptly at 7 p.m.
The public is invited to attend the free event.
This year's tapestry will be featuring several ensembles from the School of Music presenting a variety of musical arrangements reflecting the spirit of Christmas.
鈥淭his year marks the fifth anniversary of CU's Christmas Tapestry concerts,鈥� said Dr. Frieda Gebert, associate professor of music and coordinator of the event.
鈥淲e will celebrate the date by offering the most popular piece from our first tapestry concert, which is an arrangement of 鈥榃hat Child is This' written for band and illustrated by great works of art throughout western history. I have seen the band perform this work twice, and I still get tears in my eyes. It really is the most stirring moment of the Christmas season for me,鈥� said Gebert.
A wide range of secular and sacred pieces will be performed at the tapestry from the following ensembles, plus others: University Chorale, Handbell Choir, Flute Ensemble, Concert Band, String Quartet, Chamber Choir, New Doxology and Woodwind Quintet.
鈥淭he concert is a showcase for many of the performance ensembles in the School of Music,鈥� said Gebert. 鈥淭his year people will hear everything from a saxophone quartet to the University Chorale. Sing-a-long carols will give everyone in the audience a chance to join in the celebration, too.鈥�
An organ prelude will be performed by Dr. Wesley Roberts, professor of music, followed by greetings from Dr. Michael Carter, president of CU.
鈥淚 can't wait for this year's tapestry,鈥� said Tori Baker, a sophomore from Danville, Ky. 鈥淚t's a great start to the Christmas holiday. I always leave pumped for the upcoming season.鈥�
