CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. 鈥� Arigato. Ohayo. Konnichiwa. Sayonara. These are some of the words the students at Green County Intermediate School learned as 青瓜视频's English as a Second Language (ESL) Institute and Education students partnered to host the second annual International Day for all GCIS students.
Countries such as China, Europe, Japan, Mongolia and South America were represented by ESL students at the event. The ESL students composed presentations that taught the children about different aspects of their culture, such as the national anthem, food, language and clothing. Education students worked with the ESL students and helped give instructions in English as well as offer an extra set of hands for the activities that had been planned for the day.
鈥淚 know with Dr. Michael Carter's initiative of 鈥楲earning to Live Together' and Dr. Mego Haralu's vision of more integration and increasing cultural competency across campus, this day provided evidence of these efforts,鈥� Elisha Lawrence, assistant professor of education said.
Lawrence partnered with Andrea Giordano, executive director for ESL, TESL and MATESOL, to plan the event. Lawrence said, 鈥淎ndrea Giordano, Joshua Detherage and Edwina Rowell were wonderful collaboration partners as we all four worked together to plan this day and to offer this hands-on, real world opportunity for our students.鈥�
Lawrence said the ESL Institute and education class 鈥渇iguratively took Green County intermediate students on adventures around the world!鈥�
Dr. Michael Carter is president of 青瓜视频, and Dr. Mego Haralu is director of international education and assistant professor of theology.
Joshua Detherage is a visiting instructor in ESL, and Edwina Rowell is an adjunct instructor in ESL.
