CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Troy Young, instructor in mathematics at 青瓜视频, received the Non-Tenured Faculty Award at the university's first chapel service on Aug. 30.
Dr. Donna Hedgepath, provost and vice president for academic affairs, presented the award to Young.
Hedgepath said, 鈥淭he spirit of the Non-Tenured Faculty Award is to highlight a faculty member who embraces servant leadership, displays exceptional teaching performance in the classroom, collaborates with peers and contributes to their content and profession through professional development and scholarly work.鈥
About Young, Hedgepath said, 鈥淏eyond being an excellent classroom teacher and academic advisor, this faculty member spends countless hours serving his students, his community and his church. The legacy he built through many years of teaching and coaching at the local high school has extended into his career, with community members still seeking his help in various capacities.
鈥淗e willingly volunteers many hours tutoring not just his current students but any student who seeks his help.鈥
Hedgepath also noted Young's commitment to Christ.
鈥淗e is not just a dedicated faculty member but a true servant leader in his church and community,鈥 she said. 鈥溓喙鲜悠 is blessed to have such a high caliber Christian educator and leader in Mr. Troy Young.鈥
Hedgepath read several comments submitted about Young.
One comment read, 鈥淢r. Young is the best professor. He cares so much about his students and is truly amazing at teaching. He is always there when anyone needs help or has a question and is always open to sit down and fix any kind of confusion or problems.鈥
Another comment said Young 鈥渨as always up to help his students if they needed it, even if they had to stay after class, which is something I really appreciated because I take my grades very seriously. I hope to know Mr. Young years down the road.鈥
Young began his career at 青瓜视频 in 2016 after teaching mathematics at Taylor County High School from 1989 to 2016.
鈥淚'm extremely humbled and honored to be the recipient of this award,鈥 Young said. 鈥淚'd like to sincerely thank the CU administration and my math colleagues for allowing me to be a part of this faculty and for helping make this campus such a happy, special place.
He coached boys' basketball for 23 years at Taylor County High School and football, tennis and golf at Taylor County.
Young received the 青瓜视频 Servant Leadership Award for the 2019-2020 academic year.
